Exercising whilst pregnant is important for both you and your baby. If you worked out regularly prior to getting pregnant, then it's safe to continue doing what you were doing, but just be sure to adjust the intensity to around 70-80% of your maximum heart rate.

If you have never exercised, then it's important you check with your midwife or doctor before doing anything. If you're given the all clear, start off very lightly and slowly, and just keep the exercise low impact, i.e. walking or swimming.

Giving birth is like running a marathon in terms of energy output - so the fitter you are, the more 'equipped' your body will be, and the faster you will 'bounce back' post birth.

There are many safe exercises you can do when pregnant, i.e walking, swimming, and/or resistance training workouts 2-3 times a week.

During the course of your pregnancy you must gain weight, but being active on a daily basis will help to keep your weight gain steady and it will ensure you feel your best both physically and mentally.

If you're unsure of what exercises you should be doing, then it's a good idea to invest in the help of a reputable personal trainer (with prenatal experience) who can guide you in the right direction. Another good idea is to partake in a prenatal exercise class in your area.

The most important thing to remember for the health of you and your baby is to just KEEP MOVING.

Good luck mamas!
